Weather Station and Its Advantages

A weather station is a physical structure, usually on land or at sea, having instruments and tools for measuring air-based conditions to give information for the weather forecast and to study the weather in combination with other external factors such as sun, wind, snow etc. It is used by scientists, educators, meteorologists, emergency management professionals and others to get information for severe weather conditions or for tracking tropical storms. 

This may also be called a weather tracking station, weather control station, meteorological station, weather tracking station, weather recording station or weather collecting station. This may be a fixed station, mobile station, balloon station, fixed wire station or a floating station. A fixed station is generally used in areas that are prone to heavy rainfall or other weather-related emergencies.

It helps people prepare for severe weather conditions by warning about potential bad weather days. It helps people understand the weather and its effects on various surfaces such as the ground, atmosphere, buildings, etc. It can be used to track winds, rain, snow, hail, clouds, sunlight etc.

There are two types - The first one is the air thermometer which has sensors to detect the temperature of the air inside the house. The other type is the barometer which has sensors to measure the temperature of the air and a probe to measure the dew point or the temperature where the air will become too saturated. The temperature probes of an air thermometer can detect the temperature changes up to a few inches beneath the surface of the air.

An important feature is that they provide information such as the humidity, dew point, wind, rainfall, snowfall, snow, cloud composition, and solar radiation. They are made of different materials including plastic, metal, glass, wood, etc. Plastic home weather stations are preferred over metal or wood weather stations for their durability. Wood weather stations tend to break easily while plastic is not susceptible to breaking.

Today, there are advanced typer which can measure solar radiation, ground temperature, ultraviolet radiation, pressure, wind speed, and barometric pressure. Some of these devices have internal memory so that recorded weather conditions can be accessed on a later date for consulting weather forecasts. Today, weather forecasting at has become much more reliable than in the past due to improved technology.
